The Gas Safe Register replaced the CORGI (Council for Registered Gas Installers) gas register in Great Britain on April 1st 2009.

Basically it is the only official gas registration body for Great Britain including the Isle of Man. It was appointed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) with the intention to protect families and properties from dangerous gas works. All of the gas engineers that are legally able to perform gas work on boilers, ovens, fires and any other gas appliances are on this list. So it's all good!

In 2006 the HSE decided to review click here and modernise the scheme to bring added benefits to customers and gas engineers. The main improvement of the scheme was a clearer focus on gas safety and simplifying the registration and competences requirements for gas engineers obviously without compromising on the safety and service standards.

When you have gas works carried out in your home it is important it is carried out properly, safely and legally. Fitted incorrectly or badly repaired, gas appliances are a major cause of lethal carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Even poorly maintained appliances can lead to leaks and even explosions! So anyone working on the appliances that use this fuel in your house needs to be on the Gas Safe Register.
